Kayak Skills Development

Take your kayaking to the next level in the comfort of an indoor climate controlled pool.  This 90 minute clinic is designed for paddlers who already have basic flatwater skills and are ready to move into ACA Level 2 competencies.

Indoor Pool Sessions are at the Eline Von Borries Swimming Pool, Goucher College (1021 Dulaney Valley Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21204) On Saturdays from 4:30pm-6pm.

What we’ll cover:

  • Refined and advanced paddle strokes: draw strokes, bow rudder, low brace turn, high brace support, and stern pry/ rudder for precise boat control.
  • Self-rescues: cowboy scramble, paddle-float re-entry, and stirrup re-entry.
  • Assisted rescues: T-rescue, scoop rescue, bow rescue, and heel-hook re-entry.
  • The kayak roll: breaking down the hip snap (using poolside and on water drills), then progress through sweep roll techniques.

Prerequisites:

We ask that all participants have basic paddling skills and are comfortable in and on the water.  This is not a beginners kayak lesson, it is intended to further develop your skills.

What to bring:

Yourself, a bathing suit, nose clips (highly recommended for rolling), towel, and a big smile.  You will be learning in one of our sit inside kayaks.  Perfect prep for moving into moving water (rivers/ whitewater) or sea kayaking.  Leave the session confident, wet, and grinning with a bombproof roll!

It is encouraged to sign our waiver ahead of time while you book your spot.

Refund Policy: Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance. There will be no refunds for cancellations made within 24 hours of the reservation date/time. Please feel free to ask for clarification on this policy.  Renters must sign liability waivers prior to use.
